RSCDS Melbourne & District Branch Inc.
The Melbourne & District Branch is an affiliated branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society (RSCDS), a world-wide organisation based in Scotland which promotes and develops Scottish dance and music. Joining the Branch includes membership of the RSCDS.
The Branch is managed by a Committee of Management which meets during the year to consider and manage the business of the Branch. The Branch has a membership of around 200 members drawn from groups throughout Melbourne and country Victoria. These groups are run independently of the Branch by their own Committees.
The purposes of the Branch are:
to provide education or instruction in the practice and techniques or the teaching of Scottish Country Dancing
to sponsor or promote visiting teachers, instructors or musicians
to hold or organise schools, classes for teachers and dancers, examinations, demonstrations, dances and socials
to collect, disseminate, buy, sell, publish, give or distribute information of interest to Scottish Country Dancers
to join with other people or organisations with similar purposes (such as the various SCD groups)
the Branch is a not-for-profit organisation
